Campaign Planning (Production Campaign Planning)

Motivation for Campaign Planning

In a number of cases, one desires to plan a great deal of SAP production orders (where appropriate, a mixture of SAP production orders and SAP process orders [shortened to “orders” for the following]) according to prescribed creation regulations, such that set-up relationships and time offsets among themselves are complied with. The orders should, however, have their own order numbers and be able to be changed and postponed independent of the creation regulations where appropriate.

One forms such campaigns for different reasons. Some of these include:

  • One wants to build campaigns where conversion, various orders of the same type, intermediate cleaning, more orders of the same type and end cleaning are mapped (see following Figure 1).

  • One wants to copy good planning variants (see the following Figures 2, 3, 4, 5) consisting of many orders into the next week.

  • One wants to abide by special boundary conditions, for which no other modeling can be found (for example, there are not enough personnel to operate two resources in parallel – see Figure 6 below).

  • One cannot depict the material flow that normally holds the order together (e.g. in planning boards – see Figure 7 below).

In SAP ERP and SAP S/4HANA, one can use an “Order Network” structure that portrays a collection of planning and production orders. In this process, the structure involves a data collector with some functions relating to “Implementation” and “Quantity Customization”.

However, if one instead wants to use structures to depict a large number of orders, as illustrated in Figures 1-7, and use complex planning functions, the image possibilities and functionalities in SAP ERP and SAP S/4HANA are often insufficient. Customer-specific expansions on SAP ERP / SAP S/4HANA system with additional tables and ABAP programming are then usually undertaken or SAP SCM (as of Version 5.1) is additionally implemented.

With ORSOFT’s campaign planning solution, algorithms no longer need to be written for every special task. The master data solution is based on the knowledge gathered from a multitude of customer and branch-specific solutions for campaign planning that are implemented in an Advanced Planning and Scheduling System as Add-Ons to SAP ERP and SAP S/4HANA. This solution is described on the following subpages. You can order an in-depth description with screenshots from the solution free of charge via the “Request” button on the right side of the page.
